“I don’t understand how a woman can leave the house without fixing herself up a little – if only out of politeness. And then, you never know, maybe that’s the day she has a date with destiny. And it’s best to be as pretty as possible for destiny.”
Without saying a word, a woman can set the tone of every situation she enters into every so slightly by simply dressing well and never choosing to underdress.
Even if you are only making a quick trip to the market to pick up a gallon of milk for breakfast in the morning, take a few extra minutes to pull on a pair of dark denim jeans, slip into ballet flats, a simple tee shirt and a classic trench. A simple decision that speaks volumes.
Here are a few of the benefits of changing out of your pajamas and lounge wear as soon as you begin your day:
1. Set the right tone for the day ahead.
Just as running out the door in a disheveled mess does not bode well for a calm, serene day, so too does wearing a simple, classic skirt, cashmere sweater and fabulous heels, all with time to spare. The latter example sets the tone of serenity and composure to help the day get off to a great start.
2. Looking good helps you feel good.
Even on those days when getting out of bed requires a forklift and PMS has begun to have its way with you and your mood, help yourself out by wearing a great outfit. While it may not completely assuage how you feel, it will help project the positive, pulled-together person you wish to be perceived as, so no one will know the difference.
3. Create your own luck.
Prepare to have a good day, and when opportunities arise to make it a reality, you’ll be ready to pounce upon them.
4. Demand respect.
How we dress communicates to others how we view ourselves and how we expect to be treated. Dress professionally and appropriately and you are more likely to be treated in the exact same way.
5. Communicate without saying a word.
Similar to the fourth point, how we dress offers a glimpse to the world as to how we live, what we think of ourselves and where we would like our lives to go. Make sure you are projecting an image you are proud of every day because you never know who might notice and be taking note.
Dressing well doesn’t require a lofty budget, but instead some ingenuity and an eye for style that works for your figure and routine. Always choose to treat yourself with respect (dress to demand it) and eventually it will be returned to you.
