With yesterday’s Why Not . . . ? focused on the universal flattering choice of flats, I couldn’t help but include a few more images as inspiration, and as summer is winding down, I wanted to make sure to share as many of my favorite summer looks before fall arrives. Enjoy perusing!

White eyelet anything is quite fun to wear in the summer, and while I was putting together this week’s outfit, I stumbled upon a white eyelet shirt dress that I couldn’t wait to share. It is a bit of an investment, but a classic capsule summer item to have year after year. Imagine wearing it to cocktail events outdoors in the warm summer months paired with flats or heels, this dress is a keeper indeed. But back to the outfit – I found a handful of tops – short sleeve, sleeveless and long depending upon your style, so be sure to check the links and scrolling shopping images as well. Paired with comfortable linen shorts, this is a casual way to remain chic and cool all at the same time.  And if you’ve had your eyes on anything at J.Crew lately, take advantage of yet another sale through August 25th (25% off with SHOPNOW code).

  1. I love flats and I live in them but, because I have incredibly high arches I need a flat that laces or has a strap. The third last picture shows the sort of thing I need to have, otherwise I literally walk out of my flats. Shannon if you or any of your readers know of an adaptation that can be made to regular flats I would be most grateful to learn about it. Similarly, I can’t wear a court shoe (a “pump” to you?) because again I walk out of it.

  2. Hi Rose,
you need shoes with a higher vamp. Tom’s is a very casual option. I am also looking for something similar because due to my job, I only wear shoes I can run in. I have seen “ballet” flats with elastic criss-cross straps across the top of the foot. I believe the pair I saw was made by the Jessica Simpson brand but I haven’t found the same thing from a higher-end company yet.

  3. The last picture features the red flats. Growing up, my mom always said that every woman must have a pair of red shoes because they will make you smile.

    1. Oh, I agree! I purchased a pair several years ago and then rarely wore them they didn’t “go” with much in my wardrobe. Last year I decided I was just being silly and began wearing them in a variety of non-traditional combinations. I love getting to wear them and often receive compliments when I do. Moral: life is too short to be afraid of red shoes!!

  4. Number 10, with a very close runner-up in #9. The tie breaker was the navy/chambray combo in #10 – perfect colors, and a perfect look, for summer.

  5. Although I am drawn to all the white number 4- because it is going to feel like 108 here today, I must go with Red Shoes in the last photo. My motto is “When in doubt, wear Red”
