Living in London with Function & Style

Jun 27, 2019

A home that enables you to live well – enough space, ample natural light to engage you with Mother Nature, and thoughtful layouts for ease of effort for daily tasks – is a home to treasure. And while the argument of which should come first function or style, this 19th century London home put function first, but clearly did not leave out the important style quotient.

Key takeaways:

  • Let the light in, but keep your privacy as well with creative use of multiple shade styles (see the kitchen below)
  • Sufficient lighting, but options to create a variety of moods depending up on the task (view the many lighting fixtures in the kitchen)
  • Find a rug for under the dining room table that is beautiful as well as easy to clean.
  • Mix and match unexpected prints to set the tone for a particular room (see the children’s room below), but keep them in the same tonal palette (cool vs. warm).

I have chosen three rooms that captured my attention, but be sure to tour the entire home and read the full profile for more inspiration.

  1. I love the 2 upholstered Queen Anne chairs by the window, what a lovely place to sit and have morning coffee or afternoon tea.

  2. Really interesting design. If you like the children’s room I think you may like interiors design by @turnerpocock (instagram) I love how much fun they have with colours and textures.

    1. Funny you should mention them Marta. I partnered with them six years back or so on wallpapering my hallway for my old home and love their wallpaper options. As you shared lovely colours and textures. Quality through and through. 🙂 Thank you for the reminder.
