Style Inspiration: Classic Colors

White, black, camel, stripes, leopard, navy and gray are all colors which can serve as a quality foundation for a capsule wardrobe as they each mix and match beautifully with a wide array of other colors, prints and trendy designs. I have a predilection for navy and stripes, so much so that upon editing my closet this winter, I couldn’t believe how many nautical tops I had (even after a week, I would still have a fresh supply – yikes!). But regardless of which classic color is your preference, the good news is there are always new ways to style the same top you always reach for. Have a look at the outfits below and be sure to pick your favorite and mention it in the comments below to vie for next week’s Outfit of the Week. And don’t forget to scroll to the end of the post to see which outfit was chosen from last week’s Style Inspiration post.

Readers narrowly chose the classic trench coat with Salvatore Ferragamo flats as their outfit of the week. And while I found a pair of the designer dream pair of flats, I also found a very reasonably priced version at $70 from Aldo that you will want to take a look at below in the SHOP THIS LOOK scroll. Also in the outfit scroll are a few more trench, jeans and top options as well as a black leather pencil skirt that a handful of readers were curious about from last week’s post. Happy shopping!

  1. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your outfit selections this week. It’s so hard to choose! I LOVE outfit #3, the purse, jacket and those heels! I also LOVE #4, the very classic white dress! Looking forward to next Thursday 🙂

  2. These are all great picks Shannon, hard to narrow down but I would love to see a sampling of the outfit with the black MK purse and leopard flats. Also great eye for the look alike aldo flats!

  3. I’d love to see a budget-friendly version of the first outfit with the chanel bag and fur collared cape. Dazzling glamorous, but looks very (very!) spendy…

  4. You made it really hard this week! All of the outfits were amazing … especially the very first one! However, I have to agree with Carrie. Loved the outfit with the black MK bag and those leopard flats .. I already have two pairs and could never get enough!

Thanks for making my Thursday morning fun .. now back to work!

  5. I love #4 love the white dress, black clutch and print shoes! also love the white jeans and floral shirt…either one would be great!

  6. Love these classic looks. I especially love outfit 4 with the white dress and leopard pumps. A real classic look but still contemporary. I would love a dress like this in my wardrobe.
Also for casual wear, outfit 9 is great.

  7. I love that you show classic styling with a modern twist. So many of the pieces can be picked up at Brooks Brothers. With an Italian at the helm of the company you can sure see the European influence .
    Check it out!

  8. Shannon,

I’m grateful you included a cute cold weather outfit and I already have all those pieces! I find the hat is what really makes the winter outfit. I did invest in the 60 inch water pearls and love their versatility–one to four loops or long with a knot. I love the camel coat, as it is on my shopping list. I’m shopping with my personal stylist today and thanks to your inspirations, I have a simply luxurious outfit to wear!

  9. Though there were so many great looks to choose from, I’m all for the MK bag, skinngy jeans, and leopard flats. Who doesn’t need to rock a casual look on an almost daily basis? This appealed to me because it is something everyone could pull off in some version.
