2019 Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Exhibit, The Paley Center for Media, NYC

We may have to wait until early December for the third season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Amazon, and while I have no doubt it will be worth the wait, if you are visiting New York City between now and September 7th, be sure to visit Paley Center’s exhibit to step into the world of Mrs. Maisel.

Books

The Art of Noticing: 131 Ways to Spark Creativity, Find Inspiration, and Discover Joy in the Everyday by Rob Walker

If you are looking for a dose of inspiration to kick off the new fall season, Rob Walker’s new illustrated book may be just for you. Full of 131 simple, potentially creativity-sparking exercises, perhaps one or many will help you become “a clearer thinker, a better listener, a more creative workplace colleague and finally, to rediscover your sense of passion and to notice what really matters to you.”

The Power of Positive Thinking by Dr. Norman Vincent Peale

An oldie, but a book worth reading or perhaps rereading as a resource if you have noticed your positivity waning. This international bestseller is designed to help readers cultivate a happy and satisfying life. How? By helping readers “build new power and determination, develop the power to reach goals, break the worry habit and achieve a relaxed life, improve your personal and professional relationships, assume control over your circumstances,” and last but not least, “be kind to yourself”.

The Shaping of Us: How Everyday Spaces Structure Our Lives, Behavior and Well-Being by Lily Bernheimer

When I first learned of this book, I immediately put it in my shopping cart as I love spending time in my home. Our sanctuaries and our places of work, how they are designed, the lay-out and decorated play a powerful role in our moods, productivity and sense of connection. Author Lily Bernheimer shares tips and ideas for cultivating a better space for your life, and also shares the pitfalls of bad design and decor.

The Great British Bake-Off, season premiere

While those of us in America will have to wait about two more months, readers in the UK can get excited!!! The new season of The Great British Bake-Off just revealed who the new bakers are, and the new season will kick off on August 27th. As soon as the series wraps up in the UK, look for it to be available on Netflix here in the states. Ready. Set. Bake!

Film

—Blinded by the Light

Critics, including Rotten Tomatoes, are quite impressed with the new film which was inspired by Sarfraz Manzoor’s memoir Greetings from Bury Park. Read a profile on the author of the book that inspired the film, and be sure to check out the trailer below. Opening in select theaters this weekend.

This Changes Everything

Also opening in select theaters this weekend, a documentary “uncovering what is behind one of the most confounding dilemmas in the entertainment industry – the under-representation and misrepresentation of women”. Executive producer Geena Davis, along with academy award winning actress Meryl Streep and other women and men in the film industry lend their voices to this film that “is a call for change and accountability, seeking and proposing solutions from inside Hollywood and around the world”. Have a look at the trailer below.

The Best of French Accordion Classics

French Week may have wrapped up last week, but playing French accordion music will never get old in my house. This album is full of classics that will entice your mind to wander back to France for a moment or maybe two.

Shopping

Aerin Clamshell Box

I saw this simple decor item, and for anyone who loves the ocean, what a unique piece to place on your dresser or something that catches your eye. Place small pieces of jewelry or special items inside, and choose which of the two sizes would fit best for that one special item.

Banana Republic Sale

With sale items being futher reduced, such as this linen-cotton shirt dress, now is a great time to stop by Banana Republic and scoop up some great deals. No promo code needed.

Dermstore Anniversary Sale

I took advantage of Dermstore’s 20th Anniversary Sale. Running through the 25th, save 25% off with promo code CELEBRATE on most of the beauty products. I purchased items I regularly need to repurchase every few months such as Klorane’s dry shampoo and my new favorite lip balm from Bioderma – seen above.

  1. I can hardly wait to hear your news! I always want the absolute best for you like I do for all my dear friends. 🙂

  2. Thank you, Shannon! I had not known about the Dermstore. I was thrilled to replenish my favorite Caudalie Cleansing Oil plus order an eye cream I’ve been wanting to try, 100% Pure Coffee Bean Eye Cream, both at a fantastic discount. Appreciate you as a trusted resource. Merci! Angela
