Summer sales are popping up like [pick your favorite summer fruit or flower], and so long as you are shopping for items you would love regardless of the price, now is a wonderful time to swoop in and save some money. L’Occitane’s annual summer sale is on with discounts as awesome as 50% off.
—The Art of Frugal Hedonism: A Guide to Spending Less While Enjoying Everything More by Annie Raser-Rowland and Adam Grubb
A TSLL reader shared this book with me, and I am eagerly looking forward to reading it. The title alone offers a paradox that I want to more clearly understand.
—When to Jump: If the Job You Have Isn’t the Life You Want by Mike Lewis
Many people in our current economy are stepping into entrepreneurship and many others are contemplating it. So how do you know when to jump? Mike Lewis’ new book with a foreword by Sheryl Sandburg dares to answer that very question.
—Paris to the Moon by Adam Gopnik
While published in 2000, New Yorker writer Adam Gopnik’s book Paris to the Moon is one to read for Francophiles as he shares his time beginning in 1995 of living in Paris with his wife and son. Described as funny and tender, Paris to the Moon comes highly recommended by fellow readers and writers.
—Sharon Santoni’s My Stylish French Box – August’s theme is “In the French Kitchen”
My tastebuds and French foodie predilections are now uber heightened as Sharon Santoni of My French Country Home just announced the theme of her summer My Stylish French Box – it’s all about French cuisine, “In the French Kitchen” to be precise. Being delivered to subscribers in August, if haven’t subscribed, you still have time to do so in order to receive this upcoming season’s box. As I shared last month when May’s (spring) box arrived, Sharon spoils her subscribers quite luxuriously.
Henry Bendel’s boutique located in New York City is a luxury destination offering accessories, handbags and jewelry often hard to find anywhere else. While I can’t pay full price for their items, when they have a sale, I make sure to take a look. If you are looking for a quality handbag, be sure to peruse the selections as prices are significantly reduced.
It seems as though season 1 of Queer Eye on Netflix was just released (or I just binge watched far too quickly), and now fans are spoiled for riches as season 2 is now available. While I have yet to begin the season, if it is anything like season 1, viewers are in for a heartwarming treat (based on those that have seen it, I hear having tissues nearby is a must). Have a look at the trailer below.

And with a flight over the contentiental United States and then across the Atlantic, TSLL is in France! Currently Paris at the moment, of which I have been posting frequently on Instagram (stories too – be sure to check out IG Highlights – #tsllFrance2018). As I shared in Wednesday’s post, I will be guaranteeing Monday’s podcast episode and Friday’s This & That as well as delivery of the weekly newsletter on Friday while I am traveling. The other postings will happen as inspired from my travels, so stay tuned. As of now, it looks like a new post will go live tomorrow (Saturday) on the blog of sharing my first few days in Paris, so be sure to stop by.
But back to traveling and so too, arriving in Paris on the first day of summer. The weather was exquisite yesterday with a temperate low seventy-degree day (Fahrenheit), whispy clouds and busy Parisian streets of locals and tourists (as seen at Sacré-Couer). I couldn’t be more pleased with the selection of a boutique hotel for my time in Paris to ease the transition from a long day of traveling as well as nestling into the city without feeling too much like a tourist. Be sure to look for an upcoming post on this gem in coming weeks. And have a look at this IG post regarding what I discovered to be one of the best ways to remedy jet lag as best as possible.
I am already thoroughly enjoying hearing from everyone who is following along on Instagram, so don’t be shy. TSLL will be traveling throughout France, and I am so excited to share where I will be going next, but you will have to wait until I arrive . . . stay tuned. This is partly because I have to take a train to get there, and as of right now, the strike shouldn’t effect it, but then again, I am not going to celebrate this news until I am on it with my luggage and moving in the right direction. But more importantly, the first weekend of summer has arrived, and I hope you have a most wonderful introduction to the new season. Below are a few posts and one video you may enjoy. Until potentially tomorrow, but for sure on Monday with the annual and much anticipated Ask Shannon episode (episode #214), bonne journée (be sure to listen to this week’s episode of the podcast as I finally say this favorite French salutation correctly)!
