“French women will tell you that when you know who you are, you are able to become more yourself, and then you naturally and easily become more confident. When you know who you are, you are more ‘contained’ because you are confident, and as a result, you become more mysterious.” —Jamie Cat Callan from her new book Parisian Charm School

Author and Francophile Jamie Cat Callan joins me on the first episode of 2018. The author of Bonjour, Happiness, French Women Don’t Sleep Alone and Ooh La la!: French Women’s Secret to Feeling Beautiful Every Day, Jamie’s new book offers a curriculum on cultivating a life of engaging with the world, not only with a lover or a partner, but with your neighbors, friends and the community that surrounds you.

Full of detailed anecdotes inspired by the intimate conversations with French men and women as well as expats living in France, Jamie shares with readers how each of our love stories is unique, and the key is to discover the joy in the everyday.

She joined me from her farm in the Hudson Valley where she calls home with her husband and shares her own love story during our conversation and how she trusted her path discovering it was exactly and more than she could have hoped for.

The book Parisian Charm School: French Secrets for Cultivating Love, Joy and That Certain je ne sais Quoi will be released tomorrow, January 2nd. Visit Jamie’s blog to discover her book tour schedule, and follow along on her journey via Instagram as she shares what delights her while living on a farm (view a few pics below) as well as images from her travels to France.

  1. Happy New Year Shannon. This was such a lovely interview to listen to this morning. I will definitely be playing this again and look forward to reading Jamie’s new book. With best wishes.

  2. Happy happy new year to you and the boys!
I am so happy that Jamie has a new book. I have all of her books and this will certainly join the collection!

  3. Happy new year Shannon. Thank you for providing us with this review. Can’t wait to get my hands on this book. Also, I’m now following her on Instagram thanks to you!

  4. I was doing the dishes and listening to the podcast when I heard you mention Mimi, and I wondered if Cat was talking about my friend Mimi! What a sweet surprise… I’ve also written about Mimi in my book, Running Away to Europe. She and I met for a lunch a few times during and had been friends through the blogosphere prior to meeting. She is wonderful. I used to be a copy editor for Belle Inspiration years ago. Here is a link to my blog post with a picture of Mimi and I meeting at Laduree, where she and her husband met. (I also included that in my book too.). I’m very excited to read Parisian Charm School! https://simplycolette.blogspot.com/2011/05/good-bad-ugly.html

Each episode resonates with where I am in my life and provides inspiration for a richer and more luxurious way to live. I have always enjoyed living simply and recognizing my own petite pleasures, like listening to your podcasts has enhanced my life even more. THANK YOU.

    1. Gretchen, Thank you for taking the time to stop by and say hello. I thoroughly enjoyed having Susan on my podcast, as well as Jamie. Two women living their lives in such a way that aligns with their passions and talents. I appreciate your time and wish you a wonderful start to the week! 🙂
